How to apply

Eligible applicants are encouraged to apply for Redress WA.

How do you apply?

Application packages are available by contacting Redress WA or can be downloaded from this site by clicking here.

Before requesting an application package, it is recommended that you check the eligibility criteria to ensure you qualify for Redress WA.

Applications open for 12 months from 1 May 2008 and must be lodged by 30 April 2009.

When you submit your application for Redress WA, it must be on an official application form.

Practical assistance for completing applications will be available from by contacting Redress WA.

What happens after an application has been submitted?

All applications must be lodged between 1 May 2008 and 30 April 2009.

Following the closing date (30 April 2009) for receipt of applications, assessors will review all applications.

If your application is successful, what can you expect?

Eligible applicants will receive:

  • a written apology and acknowledgment of the abuse suffered
  • access to some counselling and support (including financial and legal) services at no cost
  • an ex gratia payment
  • police referral (if appropriate).

The ex-gratia payment will be based on the severity and impact of the abuse suffered.

Are there conditions for accepting an ex gratia payment?

Yes, ex gratia payments will be made dependent upon the applicant signing a ‘Deed of Settlement and Release’ indemnifying the Minister and the State of Western Australia from any current or further legal claims arising from the same experiences of alleged abuse .

Applicants will be provided with access to independent legal advice to assist them in making an informed decision about the 'Deed of Settlement and Release'.

Access to independent financial counselling will be available upon request to applicants who are offered an ex gratia payment.
